D.I.Y. Packing and Unpacking Tips

• Cut back on excess clutter. As mentioned above, figure out what to keep, toss, sell or donate. Take measurements of your new home or office and get rid of any furniture or equipment that won’t fit.
• Invest in quality moving boxes. Free boxes are always a score, but that doesn’t mean their dependable. Ensure you get secure and durable boxes to move your things.
• Set a schedule for packing each day. Set a time for about an hour each day to set aside time for packing. Doing too much can burn you out later in the week.
• Create an essentials bag or box. It’s unlikely that the first thing you’ll want to do when you reach your new space is unpack everything. An “essentials bag” or tote can give you easy access to things you may need right away such as a toothbrush or other hygiene products.
• Don’t overpack. Try to keep your boxes under 50lbs. Cramming all your stuff into one box is dangerous and could result in broken boxes and ultimately lost or broken items.
